Just because primary
teeth fall out and are eventually replaced by permanent
teeth, care for them isn’t any less important.
As a matter of fact, taking care of your children’s
primary teeth can be the single most effective type
of dental care, as they are a vital part of your
child’s speech and eating habits.
In
primary teeth, cavities can sometimes require pulpectomy
or root canal therapy, which is a quick —
yet avoidable — procedure. When a cavity becomes
so deep that is touches the nerve, pulpectomy or
root canal therapy is necessary to remove the irritated
part of the nerve. In most cases, a numbing solvent
is applied so your child’s experience in the
dentist chair is not traumatizing or scary. The
procedure is extremely effective is preventing and
getting rid of infection, and ultimately saving
your child’s tooth.
Primary
teeth should be kept as long as possible to avoid
misalignment in permanent teeth. If taken care of
properly, primary teeth can help prevent the orthopedic
corrections later in life. Teaching your child how
to care for their teeth at home is just as important
as taking them to the dentist at least twice a year
for a routine cleaning and check up.
When
cavities are spotted in primary teeth, dentists
will use filling for smaller situations and crowns
for larger cavities. Crowns for children’s
teeth are often pre-made from stainless steel and
can be applied and sealed in one appointment. Having
these procedures done can often be scary for young
children. So at Gateway Dental, your child’s
comfort always comes first.
When
you first visit Gateway Dental with your child,
Dr. Bobby Grossi will consult with you to explain
the preventative homecare treatments for best suited
for your care of your child’s mouth and teeth.
When the time comes for a filling or crowns, the
situation will be thoroughly explained to you and
your child. Making your children feel comfortable
,and at home, is the most important part of the
procedure. |
