Suffering from headaches,
migraines, painful problems with you jaw or tension
in your face and head. Those are all signs that
you may be grinding your teeth. Jaw clenching, formally
known as bruxism, is the accidental action of grinding
or clenching your teeth by use of your TMJ (temporomandibular
joint). Fortunately, research has shown successful
ways to prevent and treat problems are a result.
At
Gateway Dental, Dr. Bobby Grossi is certified to
treat painful problems related to grinding your
teeth with the NTI Suppression System. The system
works by the placement of an NTI appliance that
prevents contact between molars and canine teeth.
The lack of that contact will leave your jaw unable
to clench your TMJ and your TMJ will not become
fatigued from doing so.
The
NTI Suppression System works by the placement of
a small acrylic appliance that’s customized
to precisely fit your bite. It’s small size
is about one third of a thumb nail, making its fit
secure over your upper front teeth. The appliance
is most effectively worn at night, or at times when
you find yourself clenching or grinding your teeth
the most.
To
determine if the NTI jaw suppression appliance might
be an option to help eliminate headaches and painful
jaw joints, a simple test can do the trick. Place
a pencil between your molars, bite down and touch
the side of your face, just above your eyes. This
spot is your TMJ, and tension from the bite should
leave it fluttering. After you determine where the
muscle is, move the pencil to between your front
teeth and bite down. At this point you should notice
the temporal muscle is contracting much less. Similarly
but much less awkward, the clear NTI appliance is
used to reduce the TMJ contractions, which ultimately
causes painful migraines and tension headaches.
The
NTI appliance is approved by the FDA and is proven
to be twice as effective as preventative medicine
and painkillers. Patients who come to Dr. Bobby
Grossi have experienced more than 70 percent fewer
migraines within the first eight weeks of using
the NTI appliance.
If
you’ve been experiencing unexplainable headaches,
jaw tension or migraines, you may be suffering from
grinding or clenching your teeth, which is very
common in adults. Dr. Bobby Grossi is highly experienced
in diagnosis and can most likely determine if the
NTI Suppression System is right solution for you
after one consultation.
